Tank Tightness Testing

Description

EnviroSure conducted a Phase I ESA which identified areas of concern (AOCs) including the historical on-site landfill activities, presence of a 1,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tank (UST), industrial use of the Site, possible groundwater contamination, and an active heating oil UST.

Based on the Phase I ESA findings, the Client retained EnviroSure to conduct a Phase II ESA. During the Phase II ESA, EnviroSure collected soil and groundwater samples from the AOCs to determine whether the Site had been impacted.

Fourteen soil samples and one groundwater sample were collected during the investigation and analyzed for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), Priority Pollutant Metals, and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). Concentrations of contaminants in soil analyzed in the historical landfill area exceeded New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Standards. EnviroSure recommended that the Client delineate the extent of landfill material on the Site and use an institutional control to mitigate the environmental liability associated with the AOC.

A tank tightness test was performed on the 1,000-gallon gasoline and 275-gallon heating oil USTs. Both of the USTs failed pressure tests, indicating both have leaks in the UST system. EnviroSure recommended closure by removal of both USTs and suspected impacted in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
