As part of the Coatesville Train Station project, the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Coatesville engaged EnviroSure, Inc. to conduct pre-demolition asbestos-containing materials (ACM) surveys. The surveys were conducted prior to demolition of mostly residential structures as part of the Coatesville Train Station project.
The ACM surveys for a total of about 20 structures were conducted in stages. EnviroSure ensured that the inspections were scheduled immediately upon authorization by the client. Quick turnaround time of reports was critical for project success.
The purpose of the ACM surveys was to identify and document ACM for remediation prior to demolition. The EPA’s National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) regulation requires that buildings scheduled for renovations/demolition have an inspection identifying ACMs. OSHA’s construction Standard for Asbestos (29 CRF 1926.1101) requires that building materials installed prior to 1981 be inspected for asbestos or the materials must be classified as presumed ACM.
EnviroSure’s project manager worked directly with the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Coatesville. EnviroSure conducted field work in coordination with Brite Realty. Brite Realty was responsible for property management for the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Coatesville and provided EnviroSure access to the structures.
Samples of building materials were collected and analyzed by Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM), which classifies a material as asbestos-containing if it contains greater than one percent (>1%) asbestos. Sample results were summarized in a report that identified the location and approximate quantity of confirmed ACM.
