EnviroSure, Inc. was selected by the City of Trenton from approximately 15 bidders to conduct a Site Investigation (SI)/Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) of the approximately 4.6-acre former Federated Metals facility located in Trenton, NJ. The SI was conducted by EnviroSure prior to purchase of the site by the City of Trenton as part of the Enterprise Avenue Redevelopment Area Plan. The former Federated Metals site was historically used for refining secondary metals to produce metallic zinc dust. Site buildings were demolished in 1995.
During the SI/Phase II ESA, EnviroSure conducted a geophysical survey, investigated subsurface conditions, and collected soil samples for laboratory analyses. EnviroSure identified eleven areas of concern (AOCs) on the Site including former use of gasoline, kerosene, and oil underground storage tanks (USTs), electric transformers, railroad scale, and oil pump. To investigate soil conditions surrounding each AOC on the Site, EnviroSure directed the advancement of 42 soil borings and excavation of 12 test pits. A total of 56 soil samples were collected and analyzed for contaminants associated with petroleum products and metal waste products.
EnviroSure’s SI/Phase II ESA report summarized findings and recommendations for additional investigation. The SI/Phase II ESA was conducted in accordance with the ASTM Standard for Phase II ESAs and the NJDEP’s Technical Requirements for Site Remediation. EnviroSure recommended delineation of soil and potential groundwater impacted by petroleum products and heavy metals based on the findings of the investigation.
